CINCINNATI, Ohio — Sept. 21, 2023 — Paul Hemmer Company took home the award for Industrial Deal of the Year for its Freestore Foodbank project at this year’s NAIOP Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Chapter Night of the Stars celebration held Thursday, September 21 at The Lightwell at North by Hotel Covington.
The annual event brings together developers, owners, brokers, designers and their teams to honor those people and projects that have had the greatest impact in the industry and the communities and set the standard for excellence for all members.
The Freestore Foodbank’s new $32M, 224,000sf facility serves as a community resource center and distribution center for the local non-profit organization. The building was developed to combine five separate facilities into a single new headquarters, increasing the efficiency and capacity to support the Cincinnati community.
The Freestore Foodbank partnered with the design-build team of Paul Hemmer Company and KZF Design to deliver this project. The building includes 49,000sf of office, training, and volunteer space, 9,000sf of commercial training kitchen, 6,000sf pantry/grocery, 29,000sf of high bay cooler and freezer storage, and 131,000sf of high bay dry storage. Capacity for dry and cold storage execeeds 7500 pallets. The exterior of the building utilizes a unique reveal and window scheme in precast concrete wall panels to provide aesthetic and instinctive wayfinding for both guests and building users.
The construction of the project was supported by 43% MBE/WBE participation.
